    Kyoto Trail - North East Section

    A strenuous hike up Kyoto’s most sacred mountain, and the second tallest mountain surrounding Kyoto (after Atago). A popular walk for local experienced hikers, the top offers great views of Kyoto in the west and Biwa Lake in the east, along with the chance to explore the wonderful temple complex. You then continue north and descend into the small village of Ohara in north Kyoto.

    Getting There: From Downtown Kyoto:
    Take the Keihan Main Line from Sanjo Station or Gion-Shijo Station north to Demachiyanagi Station [Google Maps]
    From Kyoto Station:
    Take the Number 4 bus from Kyoto station to Demachiyanagi Station. [Google Maps]
    Alternatively, you can walk to Shichijo Station station on the Keihan Main Line (about 15 minutes walk), and take the train to Demachiyanagi Station. [Google Maps]
